Yo Y Me Finds His Way in Lost in the Fog

By Michael Hammersly
PHOENIX, Ariz. (December 31, 2016)–Three straight wins had shown Yo Y Me to be the best Arizona-bred juvenile on the circuit. But a track listed as ‘good’ after heavy overnight rains couldn’t keep the 2-year-old son of Dixie Chatter from proving he’s the best 2-year-old male, period, as he gamely won Saturday’s $30,000 Lost in the Fog at Turf Paradise.

Owned by Kevin Eikleberry, William Matthews, and Lloyd Yother and trained by Eikleberry, Yo Y Me ($4.20) broke poorly in the 6 1/2-furlong event for juveniles. He rushed up, however, from his rail slot to get right into a duel, under Ry Eikleberry, with All Shacked Up. The two volleyed back and forth to midstretch, with Yo Y Me finally getting the better late when challenged by Wine N Divine, holding on to win by a neck.

Wine N Divine sat midpack early in the field of 10 and came with a strong run to be second, a neck ahead of All Shacked Up.

Yo Y Me ran the distance in 1:17.45, a tad slower than fillies ran about 20 minutes earlier. The winner’s share of $17,670 pushes his earnings to $124,515 from four wins in eight starts.

* Galactic Princess, an invader from Arapahoe, appreciated the return to facing fillies only as the daughter of Ready’s Image rallied to win the $30,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies earlier on the Saturday card.

Owned by Mark Hillman and Eleanor Martin and trained by Hillman, the 2-year-old filly won her first two starts at Arapahoe, both against fillies, before finishing a well-beaten third (13 lengths) facing boys there in her last start Aug. 14.

Off the freshening, back with fillies and with blinkers added, Galactic Princess ($12.60) bided her time early in the 6 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies under Isaias Enriquez, crept closer as the race progressed, made her serious run into the lane, grabbed the lead and drew away to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Fight to Glory, on the pace throughout, stayed on for second, while Not That I Recall stalked the pace and finished third. Holey Mosey, the 2-1 favorite, sat back, just behind the eventual winner, but could rally only for fourth in the field of 11.

Galactic Princess ran the distance in 1:17.36 on a track listed as ‘good’ after overnight rains. The winner’s share of $17,484 gives her earnings of $54,304 from three wins in four starts.
